Palestinian teenagers break apart rubble of houses and buildings destroyed during the Israeli military "Operation Cast Lead" a year ago in the Izbet Abed Rabbo area of Gaza December 20, 2009. Ironically, last year's offensive had the unlikely benefit of creating employment for thousands of young Gazans who now work daily clearing debris, salvaging rebar and recycling the ruins into new construction materials. Rubble can be broken down to a fine powder that can be mixed with a small amount of cement to mkake new tiles or construction blocks sold in bulk at significantly cheaper rates than new ones, which must be smuggled in thru tunnels along with other building supplies due to the ongoing Israeli and Egyptian border blockade meant to pressure HAMAS.
