The Palestinian fishing fleet in Gaza harbor remains in port during the normally busy evening hours August 05, 2007 in Gaza. Under the Palestinian Authority, fishermen were able to get permission from the Israeli Navy, which maintains a blockade just off the coast of Gaza, to fish several miles from shore. Since the takeover of Gaza by Hamas in June, fisherman have had a much tougher time getting the permission, and have been fishing close to shore or not leaving port at all, creating a further economic crisis in the strip. .
