#Jan25 protests in Egypt

On January 25, 2011, thousands of Egyptian protesters, inspired in part by the recent Jasmine revolution in Tunisia, took to the streets in the Egyptian capital, Cairo, and across the country in a "day of anger" to protest unemployment, corruption, and high food prices. The mostly peaceful protests were eventually met with police resistance, and violence ensued, turning downtown Tahrir square into a battlespace between protesters and police.
