An elephant wearing decorated garments takes part in the traditional Esala Perahera festival procession August 12, 2008 in Kandy, Sri Lanka. The Esala Perahera is an annual grand Buddhist festival with roots dating back to the 3rd century B.C. in which the sacred tooth relic of Buddha is paraded through the streets along with ornately costumed elephants, dancers flag bearers and drummers.
