The Iraqis were injured collaterally during fighting between U.S. forces and Al Qaeda fighters throughout the western part of the city. About 10 Iraqis in the ambulance begged for U.S. forces to take them to a nearby U.S. military hospital rather than the Bacouba city hospital because of fears that they would be killed by Shia militiamen there.
