Iraqi construction workers lay concrete during March 09, 2004 work on the Sharkh Dijlah ("East of the Tigris") water treatment plant in east Baghdad. One of two major water treatment plants serving the Iraqi capital's 4.72 million residents, the Sharkh facility is currently undergoing a 15.2 million dollar expansion project funded by USAID and supervised by the Bechtel corporation that will increase potable water flow to eastern Baghdad by some 45% when it is completed later this year.
