Two giant Buddha sculptures are seen at the Gal Vihara in what are the ruins of the ancient city of Polonnauruwa, Sri Lanka August 14, 2008. The city, which dates back to the 10th century, is one of two ancient capitals of cultures which were toppled and lost for hundreds of years, only to be re-discovered in the 19th century.
