Sri Lankan fire dancers perform on stilts during the Kandy Perahera outside the Temple of the Tooth (Dalada Maligawa) in Kandy, Sri Lanka August 12, 2008. The temple, which houses what is purported to be the tooth of Buddha, is a place of pilgrimage for Sri Lankan Buddhists and is considered by many to be the treasury of the island's entire culture. The Perahera is an annual celebration in which a hundred elephants, and groups of dancers, drummers and acrobats take part in a procession that includes a replica of the casket that contains the tooth relic.
