An Egyptian farmer walks past sample irrigation systems at an irrigation training center in the Egyptian Delta August 5, 2008 near the town of Sakha. Egypt uses an estimated 80% of its' total available fresh water for purposes of irrigation, so improving the efficiency of irrigation methods amongst its' farmers is a top priority. The irrigation training center is operated by a joint cooperative agreement between the Egyptian government and the GTZ (Deutsche Gesellschaft für Technische Zusammenarbeit), a federally owned German company that promotes infrastructure development.
