Dark patches of dirt and a few bricks dot a hillside of ancient tombs June 6, 2009, marking the locations where two and three level home stood following the recent razing of homes and the forced relocation of thousands of Egyptian families in the village of Gourna, Egypt on the West Bank of the Nile near Luxor. Provincial government officials in Luxor are moving forward with a massive redevelopment plan for the surrounding area that includes removal of the villages that more than a hundred years ago were built top ancient tombs and ruins that date back thousands of years to the New Kingdom period of Egyptian history.
