A Jamaican youth uses a piece of wood to simulate a gun during "shotta" play December 10, 2008 in the Rema garrison of Kingston, Jamaica. Although toy guns have been outlawed in Jamaica for several years in an attempt to stem the influence of the spiraling violence into youth culture, it is still common to find Jamaican children with play guns engaged in "police and thieves" type games in the ghettos. Children in these areas are in danger of being recruited by violent gangs as early as age 12.
