A Yemeni Coast Guard sailor stands watch on the deck of a small patrol boat during an April 13, 2010 patrol of the Aden port in Yemen. Yemen's Coast Guard was formed in 2003, and has approximately 1200 members and just over 50 patrol craft and ships in its arsenal. The nascent force is tasked with protecting the nearly 1200 miles of Yemen's territorial coastline against illegal smuggling (weapons and human traffic) and piracy and with securing the port of Aden, one of the largest natural ports in the world.
