A small number of still intact homes are seen behind the giant Colossi of Memnon June 7, 2009 in Gourna, Egypt on the West Bank of the Nile near Luxor. Luxor officials are moving ahead with the razing of these villages that were built top ancient tombs and ruins dating back thousands of years and villagers are being compensated with new houses in New Gourna, located several miles away. Locals complain the new homes are too far away from tourists and their work at nearby factories and shops. (Photo by Scott Nelson)
