Local officials have embarked on a 30 year redevelopment plan in Luxor and the surrounding area that will cost an estimated total of 5 billion Egyptian pounds (nearly 200 million US dollars.) The plan calls for a major redevelopment of public souks, parks, and transportation centers, as well as improved access and increased protection of the areas famed ancient archeological marvels.
