Recently provincial officials forced the relocation of thousands of families living in homes located near antiquities sites near Luxor to the rows of new homes in the New Gourna area.Though many villagers forced out of their old homes say that the constant electricity and running water of their new homes is a welcome change, others complain about shoddy quality, and the distance they are now removed from tourists, who provided most of their work and income in the previous villages.
