Egyptian heavy equipment works on a mysterious anti-smuggling tunnel project on the Egyptian-Gaza border December 20,2009 at Rafah. Egyptian authorities have not disclosed any details of the project, which is alternately rumored to be a 20 meter deep underground wall, a water saturation mechanism, or a combination of both. Whatever the reality of the project, HAMAS and the Gaza smugglers who rely on the tunnels to bring in everything from fuel to food to weapons are nervous about the prospects.
